Fifty-four players from the National, American, and Continental Conferences participated.

There are some pretty awesome runners, pitchers, infielders, and outfielders represented here!

The White team, managed by Benita, lost their first game big time and then won 3 in a row
to become champions.   Benita is not pictured because she was in the ER!

THE   ALL   STAR   GAME and PICNIC - July 2008

What a finely conditioned (thanks to the winter program) group of athletes - complete with mascot.
We had three beautiful days to play - below normal temps and no rain-outs!

The best of the best!

Tournament planning - well it's about time!

Dick's welcome.
King of the Hill - maybe?
Certainly not king of the diamond!

Half of the management team for the red team.
Thanks George and Beth for getting the drinks and snacks.

Nate managed the white team.
Thanks to all of the managers for making the tournament fun for ALL.

Mark was the pitcher for the tournament winners.
Congratulations to Dick (SS) and the entire navy blue team.
They were 4 and 0!

Concentration, muscle memory, and power.

After two games on the third day, several said "I'm tired,
I have to work (what's that??), I have to play tonight, etc. and they left!"
But 24 softball fanatics stayed to play their 7th game.
That really mixed the players.

Many players said they enjoy playing with people from all conferences.
I know I do!   Thanks to everyone for participating.

51 players participated.

More women participated this year.
It was great to have Darlene, who played with NVSS for many years.
She was visiting from Florida.

Dan stretch it out good, OR
your leg will look like Brian's!

Mark, get in that last swing, it's almost game time,
and thanks for your willingness to pitch for blue when they were short.

Great hitter and speed too - perfect lead-off.
Jennifer, we thank you for talking your boyfriend into umpiring.

Followed by power and more speed.
Nate, thanks for managing the white team, and making our games fun for all.
Thanks to all of the managers:   Nate, Benita, Dick, and the Hersey's.

And more power.
An RBI for Jeff on this one when Nancy scores run number one.

Half-time entertainment - by 'The Queen and Her Court'
This queen is only 12 years old!
Looks like the future of NVSS is in good hands.

No expense was spared on the scorecard!!
GOLD - 15-7, 9-8, 19-3, and 11-8
Now you've gotta polish it another 365 times

Congratulations GOLD!
Yes, Benita managed to win again - two years in a row.

Past tournament coordinator, Norb (on the left), played a great tournament.
He had at least 4 hits, and made a couple of solid catches in left field.

Paul, thanks for volunteering to umpire,
and thanks even more for playing
when we needed you.
Our youngest fan

It is time to party with pizza and beer - root beer that is.

SOME EVEN HAD WATER!!
George and Beth, thanks for bringing the snacks and drinks.

The WHITE team managed by Brian Payne.

The opening ceremonies on Monday June 6.

Fewer ladies are playing this year because many went to Pittsburg for the Senior Olympics.

Paul Winkler hits for the white team.

Lo Logan takes dead aim!
Catcher, Tex Ketcham waits for a swing and miss.
Our umpire Vince Skrinak waits to make his call.
Don Meli, coaching third base, is hoping to send Lo home!

Nancy Mason was hot - 10 hits in 13 trips with a double!

Jeff Klop hit well and played a great short field!

Rob Hanna helped the white team go 3 and 1.

Speed merchants Nancy Anthony and Don Meli pinch ran often.
Here Nancy scores the winning run against blue.
The score was tied 7-7 going into the bottom of the 7th,
when light hitting Owen Lee lead off with a single;
Nancy pinch ran and scored the winning run
on Jeff Klop's triple with two out.

Thanks to our managers for fair and friendly competition!

This is a fan friendly tournament.
All of our fans get a seat in the "FRONT ROW" !!

Congratulations Benita for leading this group to victory.
Polish the trophy daily so it'll be in good shape for next year!!

The umpire is Nate Granger.    Batter, Toni Letaw says
"BUT, look Nate, it was a ball - see the dust - see the dust!!!

Sue "hurry up ball, get down, I'm ready to hit ya over the fence!"

GOOD   GAME !!
