TEACHERS:
1) J. C. Bilderback - Principal from 1951 - 1958.   He grew up in Augusta, IL (west-central part of the state).   He earned degrees from a college in Canton, MO and the University of Iowa.   He succeeded Harry R. Hertz as principal of North Boone.
2) O. Delap Premo of Wheeling, IL, passed away February 8, 2004.   He played the tuba with the North Shore Concert Band for more than 40 years, and at one time was national president of the Tri-M Honor Society.   After leaving North Boone, he was a longtime band, choir and junior orchestra teacher and music department chairman at Maine East H. S. and Main North H. .S. in Park Ridge, IL.
3) Olen Eugene "Gene" Brown   April 3, 1927 - Augst 20, 2008.   He was principal of Capron Grade School for many years including my (Owen Lee) 3 years from 1953 to 1955.   He lived on the corner on the southeast side of Capron on a few acres and raised Herford cattle.   He was quite successful showing them at the Boone County fair!   At our class reunion on Aug 9, 2008, HIS students signed a greeting card for him which he enjoyed before he passed away.
4) Eugene L. Sloat, 80 Janesville, WI, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010.   Born Feb. 20, 1929, in Beloit, the only child of the late Earl and Zola (Hovey) Sloat.   Graduate of Harvey (Ill.) High School, and then received a bachelor of arts degree and master of arts degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.   Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict as a communications specialist.   Life member of the American Legion, Post 205 in Capron, IL. Gene had been employed for many years by the Janesville School District as a Speech/English teacher and was also the head of the library department at Franklin Middle School until his retirement.   During this time he was the advisor to the audio visual department, and also to the debate and forensics teams. Gene will be remembered by so many for his outstanding work with the children of this area. Not only was he an educator, but he also volunteered many hours with 4-H, working in the gardening and leather craft areas.   His "green thumb" kept many friends and acquaintances in tomatoes and other fresh vegetables all through the seasons!
From the 52 graduates of the class of 1959:
1) Larry "Jumbo" Houpt passed away May 27, 1994.   Larry was born June 30, 1941.   I (Owen) worked with Larry making commercial ovens at KKO in Capron during the summers while I was attending college.   Larry was easy to get along with, and was a good friend!
2) Frank Wilcox passed away July 6, 1994. Frank was born November 15, 1939, and died of heat stroke while working outdoors during a very hot spell.
3) Karen (Johnston) Schupp passed away August 18, 1994.   Karen was born August 11, 1941, and grew up in the country on Hunter road just a short distance east of the Capron road.   She died of a heart attack while driving along the Poplar Grove road.
4) Lewis Peterson passed away January 24, 2001.   He lived in Jamestown, MO.
5) Donna (Schmitt) Gardner passed away August 17, 2004 in Beloit Memorial Hospital.
6) Neva Mae (Watkins) Babcock (67) passed away at her home in Garden Prairie December 30, 2008.   Neva was born on April 25, 1941 in Belvidere.   She was the fleet administrator at Sunstrand Corporation from 1961 to 1992.   She enjoyed breeding and raising Arabian horses.   Neva also liked photography and genealogy.
7) Amos L. Anderson, 69, of Capron, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2010.   Amos was born January 4, 1941, and married Shirley Pearce in 1968.   Amos worked for C&H Fertilizer, Midwest Agri-Systems, Capron Hardware, Carroll Electric and Blue Ribbon Electric.   He served with the Capron Fire Department for 25 years.   Amos enjoyed 3 grandchildren, working in his garage, reading, and having breakfast at the Village Café in Capron.   He gave the gift of sight by being an organ donor.
8) Wayne Allen Peterson, 69, of Caledonia passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011.   He was born Aug. 22, 1941, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961.   Wayne enjoyed sports, wagering on anything, and spending Saturday mornings (for over 30 years) with the same group of friends at the Macktown Golf Course.   He is survived by 2 sons, a daughter, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

2) Judy Kaye (Schaubaker) Meckley   June 14, 1940 - July 4, 1996.

6) Kenneth Wesley Larson (55) passed away December 16, 1995 in Palm Springs, California after a lengthy illness.
7) Hans E. Arvidson   June 8, 1941 - July 20, 2006.After receiving his high school diploma in 3 years, he served from 1961-1966 as USAF Navigator in C-118s and C-135s Stationed at 1) James Connally AFB, TX; 2) Mather AFB, CA; & 3) McGuire AFB, NJ.
From 1966-1972 he attended the University of Colorado (BA) and Colorado School of Medicine (MD)
From 1974-1986 he worked as an ER Physician in LA, CO, and TX.
In 1989 he attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (MPH)
From 1986-2000 he served as USAF Flight Surgeon Stationed at:   Sheppard AFB, TX (Training), Beale AFB, CA (Flight Surgeon for SR-71 and U-2 crews), Brooks AFB, TX (Training and Board Certified in Aerospace Medicine), Clark AFB, Phillipines (Helped shut down base after Mt. Pinotuba erupted), Barksdale AFB, LA (Flight Surgeon for B-52 crews), Randolp AFB, TX (Commander, Aeromedical Squadron), Maxwell AFB, AL (Commander, Aeromedical Squadron), Keesler AFB, MS
11) Donald A. Richards, 69, of South Beloit:   Jan 23, 1940 - May 26, 2009.   He enjoyed John
Deere garden tractors, snowmobiles, and toy trains.   It was not uncommon to find Don riding up
and down the road offering to mow or snowplow for you with one of his garden tractors.All other graduates:
1) Neva W. Colver was born Dec 12, 1914 and passed away Dec 7, 2008.   She and her surviving husband Charles were the parents of Stanley '57' and Larry '59', both NB alumni.
2) Lloyd U. Crull was born Aug 9, 1920 and passed away Aug 28, 2008.   He was a 1938 graduate of Capron High School.   His 5 children (Gary, Kathy, Gordon, Bradley, and Brian) all graduated from North Boone.
3) James E. Haley passed away August 22, 2008.
4) Allan Karl Nordvig (65) of Carpentersville passed away September 28, 2011.   He was born Sept 29, 1946 in Belvidere.   Allan graduated from North Boone as Valedictorian of his class, then attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, and went on to graduate from Beloit (Wis.) College, with a degree in speech and drama.
5) Jed R. Robbins (43) of Belvidere passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010.   He was the son of Robert and Sharyn (Conley) Robbins. He graduated from North Boone High School in 1984.   He was athletically gifted.
6) Carol K. (Nelson) Spoden (67) of Belvidere passed away November 4, 2010.   She was born July 10, 1943, and worked as an assembler at Chrysler Corp. for 31 years, retiring in 2001.   She liked the Bears, cooking, and casinos.
FRIENDS:
1) John M. Eichelberger was born in 1911 and passed away during 1999.   He and Avis owned the confectionary store in Capron for 37 years - closing it in 1983.
2) Avis M. Eichelberger, 95, of Rockford, was born Sept. 7, 1915 in Garden Prairie, and passed away Oct. 9, 2010.
